THE HEALING PROCESS & THE LAW OF CURE

by Janis M. Betz, RN, BSN

I have learned that natural born health is very unusual, and it is not a common occurrence in American culture.  Most people need to put forth an effort to maintain a healthy body.  It is very rare that someone can be just like their great uncle John and live in good health for 92 years; while smoking 2 packs of cigarettes a day, eating eggs and bacon every morning, and exclusively drinking coffee as the main source of fluid.  The good genetics that kept great uncle John healthy was forever altered for future generations by the unhealthy diet and living habits that he chose to have.

THE ILLNESS PROCESS

It takes many years for your body to breakdown with cancer, disease, chronic illness/fatigue, and chronic pain.  The illness process is precipitated by having an unhealthy diet and living habits, which consist of the following:  1) Excess-protein/fat, acid-forming, processed/deep fried/cooked foods;  2) No alkaline (raw) food for 7-14 days;  3) Insufficient pure water (1-4 cups/day);  4) Exclusively unhealthy, acidic, toxic drinks such as sugary drinks, sodas, and coffee;  5) 150 grams (38 tsp.) of simple, refined sugar/carbohydrates per day;  6) Low-fiber; 7) Inactivity; and  8) Tobacco and excess alcohol and food use.  Other issues that contribute to the illness process are unresolved physical and/or emotional trauma, chronic stress, blocked energy flow and nerve pathways, and blocked detoxification pathways (i.e. liver, kidney, colon, lymph).  Once your body has reached the state of manifesting symptoms of cancer, disease, and chronic illness/fatigue, and chronic pain, it may take a long time for your body to regenerate and become healthy again, as long as the unhealthy diet and living habits have stopped, and the contributing issues have been resolved.

I liken the illness process to a concept I call the "Boiling Frog Syndrome."  If you put a frog in boiling water, it will jump out because the hot water environment is not conducive for life.  Now put the same frog in cold water and slowly heat up the water.  The frog will adapt to the slowly changing temperature.  It does not feel changes going on inside its body because the change is so gradual.  Then one day the water reaches the boiling point and the frog dies.  In many respects you are like this frog.

If your Nervous System is balanced, and you are eating healthy, practicing good living habits, and you have great bowel, liver, and lymph function, then the heat source is off, and you are well.  On the other hand, if your Nervous System is imbalanced, and you are eating a poor diet (i.e. standard American diet), practicing bad living habits, as well as having poor bowel, liver, and lymph function, then the heat source is on.  Your body goes into an adaptation mode.  You adapt to your changing internal environment, being unaware of your weakening and malfunctioning cells, organs, glands, and tissues.  You go about life adapting to pain, fatigue, feeling run down, mild symptoms of illness, and then one day you reach the boiling point - you are diagnosed with a serious illness or cancer.  If you don't turn off the heat sources (what stresses your cells, organs, glands, and tissues) you will suffer and eventually die.  You may not feel the degenerating changes in your body because they are so gradual.

THE HEALING PROCESS

I have found in my practice that many people misunderstand the concept of the healing process and the law of cure, and they give up any effort to obtain their greatest possible health because they do not like the symptoms of the healing process and what needs to happen to obtain a cure.  The process of healing begins by eliminating your immediate symptoms, then progressing through the layers of “older,” underlying symptoms.  Many of these “layers” are residues of fevers, trauma, and/or chronic disease that were unsuccessfully treated or suppressed by conventional medicine.  As your body heals, you may get worse before you get better.  This is often referred to as the “healing crisis.”  (Alternative Medicine the Definitive Guild, 2002)  This stage of healing is difficult to go through, but it is necessary in order to obtain your greatest possible health.  The healing process in the body is like peeling away layers of an onion.  Your body may have many layers of unresolved, health issues and weaknesses that need to be peeled away, layer by layer, and this takes time.

The symptoms of the healing process (healing crisis) may include symptoms of detoxification, such as blemishes (acne), skin rashes, headache, fatigue, irritability, moodiness, cough, clogged sinuses, cold symptoms, flu like symptom, fever, constipation, diarrhea, gas, and stomachache/nausea.  A healing crisis may also include the manifestation of suppressed pain or discomfort from past emotional or physical trauma that was not healed correctly.  Your suppressed layers of past health issues and weak-nesses are often removed on a priority basis.  So, you may have 10 suppressed issues or weaknesses, but your body only wants to deal with one or two issues or weaknesses at a time.  After a month or so, the next suppressed health issue or weakness may begin to manifest and you may not feel well.  When this happens, it is important to resolve the manifested symptoms correctly in order to progress through deeper layers toward your goal of ultimate health.  This un-layering or healing process may take months or years to complete.  When you give your body permission to heal, it will not disappoint you.

The hardest thing to accept is that you are NOT SICK and to realize that your body is detoxifying, cleansing, and healing itself.  The best thing to do when you are experiencing a healing crisis or detoxifying symptoms is to 1) drink a lot of water; 2) rest; 3) do light exercise, such as walking; and 4) keep your kidneys, liver, and colon flushed out.  I encourage you to get colonics or do home enemas and coffee enemas.  Drinking 1-2 quarts of CITRUS CLEANSE per day helps to cleanse your body.

In a 2qt. jar add the following fresh squeezed citrus juice, maple syrup, and then pure water:

     1 grapefruit

     2 lemons

     1 lime

         Wash well.  Organic is best.

     1/4 C. real maple syrup

    Stir or shake before drinking.

    Drink 1/2 hr. between veg./grass juices/meals.

THE LAW OF CURE

In the mid-19th century, Dr Constantine Hering discussed how your body obtains a cure.  This concept has become known as “Hering’s Laws of Cure.”  He stated that healing progresses from the deepest part of your body to the extremities; from the emotional and mental aspects to the physical; and from the upper part of your body (head, neck, ears, throat) to the lower parts of your body (fingers, abdomen, legs, feet).  Herings’ Laws of Cure also state that healing progresses in reverse chronological order, from the most recent maladies to the oldest.  (Alternative Medicine the Definitive Guild, 2002)  In other words, you may re-experience pain from a past trauma that was not healed correctly or had strong emotions attached to the trauma.

Whenever you start to do good things to improve your health, such as getting a massage, acupuncture, or chiropractic treatment, or to take herbs, or change your diet, or increase your water intake, you may stimulate a healing crisis and the detoxification processes.  This may also happen when I balance your Autonomic and Central Nervous Systems; remove disturbances from your cells and DNA, such as stored emotion from a trauma; correct energy flow interferences; and open your pathways of detoxification, such as your liver, lymph, and bowels.  Be aware that you may feel worse before you feel better.  Some people feel much better right away because the reason for their problem or symptoms has been removed.  Still many other people cycle between feeling great and having symptoms of a healing crisis.  A healing crisis may last 1-4 weeks.

The number one reason that a person stops following a health program is the healing crisis and the time it takes to obtain a cure.  People do not like feeling worse before they feel better, and they want an instant cure.  The second most common reason is the unwillingness to make permanent changes in diet and living habits.  If you want to stop the healing crisis and the detoxification process, then just stop eating and living healthy, and return back to what you were doing before you started your journey to ultimate health.

Finally, I encourage you to endure the symptoms of the healing process, and continue down the path of your healthy journey.  The road is not always easy or exciting, but the rewards are well worth all of your effort.  Lastly, I encourage you to daily follow these directions to ULTIMATE HEALTH, which is your greatest possible health.
